Two Dynasties In Rutland Area!

By Jack Healey
The first state champions of the high school winter season were crowned over the weekend and if you want to talk dynasty how about Rutland High and Mill River Cheer leading?
Rutland High winning it’s 6th straight Division 1 state championship and Mill River winning its 3rd straight division 2 state championship and 4th in 5 years. Pretty impressive! By the way cheer leading is a sport!
The Essex boys and girls winning the Division 1 state indoor track and field championships.
The Thetford boys and the Hartford girls winning in Division 2.
Mt. Mansfield and South Burlington win the state dance championships and CVU wins its 2nd gymnastics state championship in 3 years.
Al Majewski from Brooklyn,New York who played in the New York Giants Baseball Organization in the late 40’s and early 50’s died last week at the age of 94. Al has lived in Rutland for several years and he was a big fan of the Rutland Post 31 American Legion baseball team. He would often lead the crowd in the National Anthem and “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.” I had the pleasure of interviewing him at his home back in January of 2017.If you aren’t interested in listening to what people like Al have to say then you just don’t like baseball. By the way Al was from the “Greatest Generation” and was a US Marine World War 2 veteran and won several medals. Truly an American hero and a wonderful man! God Bless You Al Majewski and thank you for your service!
