NFL WEEK #1 By Jack Healey

Week #1 in the books in the NFL and even though the games were exciting on Sunday and last Thursday, last night’s weren’t so exciting. Pittsburgh routed  Washington 38-16 and it was San Francisco blanking the Rams 28-0.

Heard a comment from a Rams fan criticizing Chris Berman on the play by play of the 2nd game last night. Berman isn’t as good as many others, but he’s ok on play by play. Typical fan….you’re team stinks up the joint so blame it on the announcer! Speaking of announcers…Sean McDonough is top notch! I went 9-7 in my football picks in week #1.

David Ortiz ties Mickey Mantle for 17th place on the all-time list last with his 536th career home run last night as the Sox beat Baltimore.

I hate to bring it up again, but it’s a shame that Ortiz’ name is attached to the 2003 PED list.Yes the list that was supposed to be anonymous and for all intents and purposes “didn’t count”. I repeat Ortiz isn’t getting a pass. It’s just the opposite. If you are one of 104 on a list and one of 3 or 4 outed from the list, that isn’t getting a pass! Listen if Ortiz tests positive tomorrow I wouldn’t be surprised, but right now his link to PED’s just isn’t fair.

How about Buck Showalter challenging the final play of the game last night with his team trailing 12-2? At first I was annoyed, but then I thought there is a manager that fights to the very last out. You really got to love it!
