George Commo’s Blog – Monday 11/13/17

It was about two  months ago when UVM’s mens basketball schedule came out aand we learned that the Catamounts would be opening the season at Kentucky … we were talking about it on NSN Sportstalk and I ventured a prediction … Vermont would keep the Wildcat margin of victory under 20 points. I was scoffed at pretty much by everyone.

Turns out I didn’t give the Catamounts enough credit. They held the Wildcats winning margin under FIVE!  What a performance by John Becker’s bunch before over 20,000 at Rupp Arena. The best thing about the game was that Vermont kept coming from behind and really took it to Big Blue down the stretch.

Now I’m not going totally over the edge here. This was John Calipari’s usual Kentucky team … a boat load of super talented high school All American freshmen who have been playing together for only a brief time … they will be a lot better in March than they were yesterday. If the two teams played ten more times, yesterday’s effort might be the closest game of them all.

But for the doubters out there … the naysayers who knock the Catamounts as a team that only wins because they are in a weak America East  … take note.

On any given day these Catamounts can play with ANYONE.
