Major League Baseball And A Legend Among Us!

By Jack Healey
The Major League baseball awards are being announced this week and so far I’ve had a few right and a few wrong.
In Rookie of the Year:
Shohei Ohtani of the Angels won in the American League. I thought Miguel Andujar of the Yankees should’ve got the award and I would’ve voted for him. I expected Ronald Acuna, Jr. of Atlanta to win in the National League and he did and I would’ve voted for him.
In Manager of the Year:
The winner was Bob Melvin of Oakland. I expected him to win the award, but I would’ve voted for Kevin Cash of Tampa Bay. I expected Atlanta’s Brian Snitker to win in the National League and he did and I would’ve voted for him.
The Cy Young Awatd winners will be announced tonight:
In the American League I expect Brian Snell of Tampa Bay to win the award and I would vote for him. In the National League I expect Jacob DeGrom of the Mets to win the award and I would vote for him. DeGrom wasn’t a finalist for the MVP award in the National League, but there was some talk of him for MVP. That of course is ridiculous!
The MVP Awards will be announced tomorrow night.
In the American League I expect the award to go to Mookie Betts of the Red Sox and I would also vote for him. In the National League I expect the award to go to Christian Yelitch of Milwaukee and I would also vote for him.
Former Enosburg basketball standout Calvin Carter made his debut for the Castleton University mens basketball team last night and scored 9 points and had 8 rebounds. Calvin’s grandfather Jim Carter was on hand to watch his grandson. Jim was a legendary high school baseball coach in Vermont and currently is the coach of the UVM club baseball team. He is still working to “Bring Back Baseball” to the University of Vermont!
