“Top of the Morning To Ya”

It was a valiant effort for the UVM mens basketball team as the Catamounts fell to Purdue 80-70 in the NCAA Tournament in the first round. Cats had a chance, but couldn’t quite do it. The game was actually closer than I expected.

Tomorrow is championship day in girls basketball with three games at the Barre Auditorium and one at UVM.

At Barre:

Division 4 at noon. #1 seed and two time defending state Champ MSJ vs. #2 seed West Rutland. This is a rematch of last year’s state title game. West Rutland lost two games during the regular season and both were to MSJ. West Rutland was very impressive in its semi-final victory and MSJ struggled somewhat. I’m tempted to go with West Rutland, but somehow I think MSJ will make it a three-peat tomorrow.

Division 2 at 3:45. #1 seed Mill River vs. #2 Lyndon. Of course Lyndon is coached by NSN CEO Eric Berry so I really don’t want to be swayed so it has nothing to do with that. It’s not like I’ll get fired if I go with Mill River. I really can’t take that chance though so I’m going with Lyndon. Just kidding about that, but I really feel Lyndon does get its first title in its first trip to the state championship game.

Division 3 at 7:30. #1 Windsor vs. #2 Thetford. I’m going with Windsor.

Division 1 at the UVM Patrick Gym at 7 PM. #1 St. Johnsbury vs. #2 and four time defending state champ CVU. I’m going with CVU to make it five straight!

Now to the green beer!
