Boy’s Hockey: Hornets Roll Past U-32 10-1

ESSEX JUNCTION — The Essex Hornets rolled to their seventh straight win on Thursday night, blowing past the U-32 Raiders 10-1 in Northfield Savings Bank rivalry series action on the Essex Rink.

Essex jumped on top quickly, scoring twice in the first five minutes. Maverick King set up Sam Couture for the first goal and Grady Cram put away a Waylon Almeida rebound for the second score. Issac Johnson then finished a Chris Blanco assist late in the period for a 3-0 lead after one.

U-32 got on the board on a Malone Bruce goal early in the second, but then the Raiders failed on a golden opportunity to climb right back into the game. Given a five minute powerplay after an Essex boarding penalty the visitors allowed two shorthanded goals. Ryan Young netted the first with Cram burying his second of the night on the second one.  Jordan Janaro’s goal later in the period gave Essex a 6-1 lead after two.

Janaro, Almeida, Gordon Schmalz and Willem Barwin added third period markers as the Hornets cruised away with the win.

As big as the final margin was it would have been bigger if not for outstanding goaltending from the Raiders’ keeper Kolby Tanner.

With the win Essex improves their record to 10-2 on the  season.   U-32 slips to 3-9.
