1949,1974,1978, 2011 and the Panic Button

1949, 1974, 1978 and 2011 are all years in which the Red Sox blew the pennant or the division. For you youngsters 1949 is a year in which the Red Sox only had to win one of its remaining two games against the Yankees and lost both. I was only one year old so I actually don’t remember that one.
The worst one was probably 2011 and that was because the Red Sox not only didn’t win the division, but didn’t get a wild card spot either.
I know Sox fans are pushing the panic button right now, but if the Red Sox blow this lead and get the wild card AND win the wild card game then it won’t matter if they blew the lead. The only difference is that they wouldn’t have home field. They have to win the wild card game. If you lose that game the season is a bust anyway.
By the way the Red Sox don’t always blow leads in a pennant race. Did they in 2017, 2016, 2007, 1995, 1990, 1986,1918, 1916,1915,1912,1904,1903? No they did not!
Don’t push the panic button. At least don’t push it yet!
