Men’s Hoops: Long Range Shooting Guides UVM Past Concordia

BURLINGTON – The UVM men’s basketball team completed a weekend sweep after making 14 attempts from beyond the arc on its way to a 92-64 win over Concordia on Sunday afternoon.

Trae Bell-Haynes was perfect from the floor with 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting and handed out four assists while Payton Henson matched Bell-Haynes with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Everett Duncan registered 15 points, all from long distance, to round out three Catamounts in double figures.

Concordia’s Ricardo Monge tallied a game-high 19 points and shot 7-of-13 from the floor. Oliver Simon added 13 points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Catamounts had the long ball working from the opening tip. Vermont shot 62.5% (10-for-16) from the long range in the first half. UVM opened the game on 28-9 run and went into the locker room with a 57-34 lead at halftime after Bell-Haynes banked-in a deep three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Green and Gold carried their offensive rhythm into the second half. UVM shot 48.0% (12-for-25) from the floor and made four more attempts from three-point land. Midway through the final period, the Cats produced a 24-13 run to close out the game for the final margin of victory.

Vermont returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 4) against crosstown foe St. Michael’s. The opening tip is set for 7 p.m. The UVM women’s basketball team will host St. Michael’s at 4:30 p.m. in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
