Congratulations going out to the Rutland High girls hockey team as the Raiders defeated BFA to win their first ever Division 1 state championship by a score of 2-1. The first D1 state championship won by any team other than BFA or Essex. Rutland beating BFA for its first state championship is like beating the Montreal Canadiens to win your first Stanley Cup!

There is an NSN connection to Rutland’s championship win. Emily Grant is the Raider assistant coach and her brother Casey Grant does much of the producing for NSN games in the Rutland area.

Also Caitlin Laird had a goal and an assist and Carolyn Laird had 13 saves in goal for Rutland. They are the twin daughters of Carleton Laird who has video cast many games on NSN!

Sorry to see that Castleton President David Wolk is stepping down in December.Dave signed the first college contract to have games video cast on NSN plus he is a huge sports fan! Look what he has done at Castleton bringing in sports like football, wrestling etc. This is an era of colleges dropping sports not taking on more sports.

If Dave was at UVM, football, baseball and softball would be back in about two days!
