High School Baseball: South Royalton Wins Second Straight D-4 Title, Topping Danville 4-0

BURLINGTON — Josh Scoskie tossed a four hit shutout, striking out 13, and the South Royalton Royals won their second straight Division Four state championship on Friday night, topping the Danville Indians 4-0 at Centennial Field.

Scoskie worked around four walks and a hit batter in tossing the complete game win.

The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Nick Howe singled, stole second, moved to third on a foul pop up, and scored on the back end of a double steal. They added another run in the third on a walk, a fielders choice, a stolen base and a clutch two out RBI single by Dalton McDougal.

They made it 3-0 in the fifth on a walk, a stolen base and an RBI single by Howe, and then plated an unearned run on the 6th to complete the scoring.

Connor Johnson started and took the loss for Danville, allowing just three hits and striking out four over five innings.

Howe’s two hits led the Royals while Tyler Wells chipped in a pair in the loss for the Indians.

South Royalton won their ninth baseball state championship overall, finishing at 17-0. Danville ends the season at 12-5.
