BURLINGTON – New Hampshire scored the only goal of the match midway through the first half and handed Vermont a 1-0 setback in the regular season finale on Wednesday night at Virtue Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Catamounts came charging out of the gate with a strong chance in the sixth minute. Geo Alves weaved through two defenders on the goal line with some nifty footwork, dished a cross in front of the net for Jon Arnar Barðdal, but Barðdal’s attempt was denied by a UNH defender.
The Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute with Jack Doherty’s second goal of the year. Doherty won a 50-50 ball on the edge of the box over a UVM defender and chipped the go-ahead score into the top left corner of the net.
Late in the first half, Ívar Örn Árnason came within inches of finding the equalizer. Arnason ripped a line drive from 30 yards out but the ball deflected off the left post.
UVM was denied by the crossbar once again to begin the second half. Alves had a corner kick pinball to the far end of the box where Adrian Gahabka rifled a strike from 10 yards out but the ball skimmed off the bar.
The Cat tried once again to tie the game near the midway point of the second half. Barðdal’s shot was blocked and Jonathan Bryant gathered the rebound, but the sophomore misfired too high.

The Catamounts finish the regular season with an 11-7 overall record and 4-3 mark in conference play.
