George Commo’s Blog – Saturday Morning 10-29-16

It has to catch your attention if you are even a casual college hockey fan … the score last night at Gutterson … Vermont 3 Michigan 0.

Michigan? You mean that Michigan? The Maize and Blue? Hail to the Victors? That Michigan?

Yup.

Impressive stuff, and ask the people who were there in the Friday night full house at the Gutt … it was no fluke. The Cats dominated the game. Outshot the Wolverines by a two to one margin. Now what it means in the grand scheme of this season remains to be seen. But for Vermont fans left reeling when the Catamount program was hit with the impossible to believe return of hazing into the program just three weeks ago it has to be a great sign.

The four suspended captains from that hazing party are eligible to return tomorrow when UVM opens Hockey East league play at Northeastern, and with the way Vermont has played without them … 3-1-1 and a pair of wins over ranked teams … what does Coach Kevin Sneddon do? Do the suspended guys step right back into the lineup or do they wait while the great run these kids have made continues? We will see.

Meanwhile Norwich opened their season with a 3-3 tie last night against Endicott at Gutterson.  A tie against Endicott?  What is that? What the heck is an Endicott?

Well again, for those who weren’t there Endicott is building a program that is going places in Division Three.   They won their conference last year in their first year as a varsity program. And they are still building. Their lineup last night featured four Division One transfers. They are GOOD.

They led the Cadets by a pair going to the third and Norwich came back, tying the game with 1.6 seconds left on the clock. Call it a good tie.
