Baseball: Yellow Jackets, Eagles and Hilltoppers Win State Titles

BURLINGTON — The Windsor Yellow Jackets, the Mt. Abraham Eagles and the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers each won state championships on Saturday on Centennial Field.

In the Division 3  championship game Nick Kapascinski and Seth Balch combined on a  five hitter and fifth seeded Windsor pounded out twelve hits in a 10-3 victory over Randolph. Duncan Frazer banged out three hits and Kapascinski drove in three runs in the win.

In the Division 2 title game Adam Whitcomb tossed a complete game two hitter and the Mt. Abe offense exploded for 15 hits in an 11-1 win over Bellows Falls. Chris Wood went four for four, scored three runs and drove in a pair while Whitcomb added three hits and knocked in a pair for the eighth seeded Eagles, who won their first state title since 2010 despite finishing with a 9-11 record.

Finally Eammon McCabe hurled a complete game six hitter striking out six as the second seeded Hilltoppers earned their first championsip since 2006 with a  3-1 win over Burr & Burton. Jacob Johnson scored  pair of runs and Issac Nurko doubled in one for the winners.
