Random Thoughts with EB — and Why I’m So Proud of Some Friends!

I recently connected with a former player of mine from Lyndon State, Chris Dorsey. Quite simply, he may be the most talented player I’ve ever coached (no offense to Dave Andrus or Jim Nelson—lol). For those lucky enough to have seen him in action, you know what I mean. He was lightning quick, could shoot, was strong, had incredible handles, and was a true student of the game.

That passion and understanding of the game has now led him to an incredible new role—Associate Head Coach at Grambling State University. Yes, that Grambling State. The same one where Eddie Robinson built his legendary career.
After leading Centenary to over 100 wins and multiple championships, Coach Dorsey is now one step closer to achieving a longtime goal: becoming a Division I head coach.
I’ve watched his breakdowns of the Princeton offense—and within 30 seconds, I knew: this guy is on another level. His ability to teach, articulate, and explain the game is elite. He’s committed, driven, and respected across the board—by coaches, players, and peers alike.

Congrats, Coach Dorsey. Everyone in the NEK is rooting for you and Grambling State—and for whichever lucky program lands you as a head coach next.

From Hoops to Golf…

Speaking of the NEK being lucky—how fortunate are we to have someone like Jason Prendergast continuing to give back?
Thanks to Jason, Lyndon Institute now has two golf simulators inside Sanborn Hall. But he’s been giving back long before that. For over 20 years, he’s come back every fall to run “golf school” for both LI and St. Johnsbury Academy—growing the game in the process.
He spends his summers helping young athletes improve—and even tried fixing my swing (not his fault that I’m a lifelong slicer). For a while, he had me trending in the right direction… until I recently relapsed into my old habits.
Jason was once the Head Golf Pro at the Country Club of Jackson and studied under the Bob Ford—arguably the most respected golf professional in history. (Check this out: The Legend of Bob Ford. Yes, that Oakmont—home of the U.S. Open.)
Both Chris and Jason have deep NEK ties—and they’ve never forgotten where they came from. Their success isn’t luck—it’s the result of being good people who worked hard and stayed humble. I’m proud to know them—and even prouder to call them friends.

A Quick NBA Rant…
Let me just say—if I hear one more ESPN hot take about Luka or LeBron…
For months, I watched Get Up with Mike Greenberg and crew while working at my desk. And every day, it was all about the Lakers. Kendrick Perkins (who sounds like he still has the marbles he played with as a kid in his mouth) repeatedly said OKC had no shot against LA.
Well, Perk—how’d that work out?

The talking heads were loud and wrong. Stephen A. Smith was right there with them—dismissing SGA and OKC from the jump. Sometimes I wonder how some of these guys keep their jobs.

Vegas, Baby!
Once the Oakland A’s land in Las Vegas, imagine this: you could catch pro football (well… the Raiders, sort of), baseball, and a hockey game in a single weekend. Add in the Las Vegas Aces and soon, likely, an NBA team—and you’ve got the full lineup.
They already host the NBA Summer League. Is it the best setting for young players? Maybe, maybe not. But the city’s becoming a sports powerhouse either way.

Countdown to Kickoff…
Just over 70 days until the NFL season kicks off—but who’s counting? (Me. Me. ME.)
Here’s my early, biased, totally homer pick: Bills vs. Vikings in the Super Bowl.
And guess what? Vikings win their first. Bills lose in historic fashion. (Sorry, Buffalo fans.)
