Burlington — The CVU Redhawks claimed their fourth straght VPA Division 1 State Championship with their 95th consecutive win, topping the BFA-St. Albans Comets 40-28 on Tuesday night inside Patrick Gym.

BFA gave the three time defending champs all they could handle early, riding four points from Andi Esenler and two each from Dawson Blodgett, Hannah Earl and Kelly Laggis to a four point lead before settling for a 10-8 advantage after a quarter. But the champs regrouped and roared out of the gate with a 12-1 run to start the second,  with six different players putting up points. The  lead was nine before Esenler nailed a trey and a two pointer to cut the margin to four, 20-16 at the break.

CVU then out defensed the Comets 6-2 in the third, with senior Laurel Jaunich score four of the six to open an eight point lead at 26-18 after three. The champions then sealed the deal in the fourth quarter, nailing 11 of their first twelve free throws on route to twelve point victory.

Jaunich and her four year running mate Sadie Otley led the way in their final game, Jaunich scoring 12 points while grabbing six rebounds. Otley finished with 11 points, including seven of eight from the foul line, and their claassmate Annabella Pugliese contributed four points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Esenler nailed three treys on route to a team high 12 for the Cinderella Comets who ended their season at 12-12.
