Boy’s Hoop: Burlington Builds Early Lead, Holds Off Rutland 66-58

Burlington — The undefeated Burlington High School Seahorses built a 13 point first half lead and fought of repeated second half charges by Rutland, beating the Raiders 66-58 on Monday night inside Buck Hard Gym.

The Seahorses came out firing, jumping into an 11-2 lead just over five minutes into the first quarter. Kevin Garrison and Almir Konjohovac led the charge with six points each as Burlington built the lead to ten, 19-9 at the quarter.

Rutland, led by the shooting of Nathaniel Kingsley climbed to withing six midway in the second quarter before BHS went on another run to open their biggest lead of the night at 35-22 in the final minute of the half.

But Rutland surged back in the third, cutting the lead to three at 44-41 on more hot shooting from Kingsley before Burlington used three pointers from Garrison, Asmin Mostarlic and Kaden Rosamilia to restore an eight point advantage at 50-42 after three.

Undaunted, the Raiders fashioned one more run in the fourth, cutting the Burlington lead to a single point, but Mostarlic tossed in ten of his team high 18 points in the final stanza (two hoops and six of seven at the foul line) to secure the win.

Garrison added 13 points, and Kujtim Hashani chipped in ten for the Seahorses.

Kingsley led all scorers, putting up 21 for the Raiders, while Kyle Cassarino added 12.

With the win Burlington is now 9-0 on the season. Rutland is 7-2, with both loses coming at the hands of the Seahorses.
