Women’s Hockey: Cardinals Shutout Cadets 6-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team hosted their final nonconference game of the season against No. 10 Norwich routing the Cadets 6-0.

The Cardinals would jump out to an early 1-0 advantage when Melissa Ames slammed in a rebound on the power play exactly four minutes in.

Junior defenseman Julia Duquette netted a goal for the second-straight game and her second of the season. The North Tonawanda, N.Y. native swung down to the left circle from the blueline sending a wrister by Cadets goalie Celeste Robert.

Four minutes later, Norwich would swap goalies in favor of sophomore Laurie King.

Plattsburgh State extended its lead to 3-0 on a rebound tip-in by Karen Hudson for her first of her career. The freshman would take the first shot on King from deep in the right circle before following her own rebound tipping it over the glove of King.

Fellow freshman Mackenzie Millen got her first of the season as well to make it 4-0 Cardinals. Millen intercepted a pass sending her on a breakaway where she deked glove side before bring it back to the left and tucking it in past the sprawled out leg of King.

Coming off her ECAC West Player of the Week award, Kayla Meneghin would slip one five-hole on King to make it 5-0 Cardinals.

Melissa Sheeran make it 6-0 collecting her own rebound before her wrap around attempt slid into the back of the net.

Camille Leonard boasted her fifth-consecutive shutout and ninth on the season, stopping all 25 Cadet shots. Leonard’s shutout streak now extends to 330:28 minutes. Robert made 14 saves before turning away to King who made 24.

No. 1 Plattsburgh State picks up its second win of the season against No. 10 Norwich and remains perfect on the season at 16-0-0.
