HS Football: Tigers Run Streak to 29, Roll Over Rice 39-0

South Burlington — Quarterback Oakley Gordan threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Middlebury Union High School Tigers built a 32-0 halftime lead and rolled over the Rice Green Knights 39-0 on Saturday afternoon on Bill Landers Field.

Middlebury took the opening kickoff and drove methodically down field, using their running game, before Gordan’s first pass of the day, a 12 yard strike to a wide open Sawyer Ryan in the end zone gave the visitors a 7-0 lead. After the Tigers turned back an excellent answering first drive by Rice, Middlebury marched it down field again on the ground, with Gordan going to the air on a swing pass to Trey Kaufman who deftly stepped it the last five yards down the sideline for a 13-0 Tiger lead after one.

Middlebury then broke the game open with 19 unanswered points in the second quarter, Gordan running in from three and two yards out and fullback Conrad Fischer adding a three yard scamper. Jerry Niemo’s six yard run with 6:27 left in the third quarter completed the scoring.

With the win Middlebury improves to 7-0 on the season. It was their 29th straight win overall. The loss drops Rice to 1-6.
