D-2/3 Men’s Hockey Roundup – 11/13/15

NORTHFIELD – The Norwich University men’s ice hockey team stayed perfect on the 2015-16 season, clawing past Saint Anselm College 1-0 on Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

Junior defenseman Brian Rowland (Waltham, Mass.) scored a first-period goal and sophomore goalie Braeden Ostepchuk (Lethbridge, Alberta) made 29 saves to lead Norwich to its fourth-straight victory to open the season.

RUTLAND– Castleton fell behind 2-0 in the opening period of play and was never able to recover, as the 11th-ranked UMass-Boston Beacons defeated the Spartans 5-1 in New England Hockey Conference action this evening at Spartan Arena.

Will Laking scored the lone Spartan goal, while Corey Sikich and Ryan Smith tallied assists. Matt Lemire led the Beacon attack with three points from three assists, while Albee Daley provided two goals. Castleton was outshot in the contest 29-23, as they fell to 0-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play. Brody Wagner backstopped the Spartans with 24 saves.

SOUTH BURLINGTON. – The Saint Michael’s College men’s ice hockey team opened its home schedule with a 6-0 loss against nationally-regarded New England College during New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play at Cairns Arena on Friday. The Purple Knights are 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the league, while the Pilgrims, now 2-1-1 and 2-0-1, received a vote in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III national poll.

First-year Chris Johnson (Duxbury, Mass./Pomfret School) collected a career-high 38 saves during 58:01 of action as part of his second consecutive start in net.
