College Soccer: Vermont Falls in NCAA Opener at BC

BOSTON – Simon Enstrom’s goal in the 71st minute proved to be game-winner to lift the Boston College Eagles to a 1-0 victory over After a scoreless first half with shots even, the Catamounts threatened in the early part of the second half.

Brian Wright and Jaime Miralles each had shots from close range but BC goalkeeper Alex Kapp made the save each time.

In the 71st minute Zieko Lewis made a run to the endline and sent a cross in front of the goal mouth. Enstrom finished off the play with a one-time touch for his eighth goal of the season to push the Eagles in front.

Vermont threatened again in the closing minutes but could not find the finishing touch.

Greg Walton finished the game with two saves in the Vermont net, while Kapp was credited with six saves for the Eagles. UVM finished the match out shooting the Eagles 14-6.

Boston College improves to 10-7-1 and advances to the second round to face the University of South Florida on Sunday. Vermont, which was making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007, closes out the season with an 11-7-3 mark.
