A Sweep, A Game 7 And Baseball

By Jack Healey
The Celtics with a 4 game sweep, but it wasn’t that easy as each individual game was a battle.
The Bruins and Toronto go to a game 7 tomorrow night. What home ice advantage? Both the Bruins and Toronto have won twice on the road. That being said you really want to have a game 7 at home though. It doesn’t guarantee anything of course, but you rather be at home.
When it comes to pro sports,Rutland is a baseball town.Fans rather talk about the Red Sox and Yankees than anything else. I suspect that is the case statewide too.
Former Yankee and Red Sox pitcher David Cone who now is a color commentator on the Yes Network for Yankee baseball and does a great job has some interesting theories on why there has been no repeat champion in baseball since the Yankees did it in 1998,1999 and 2000.The main theory is that the Yankees had Mariano Rivera and nobody else did. Cone says if the Braves had Rivera they would’ve won five championships.
To refresh everybody’s memory Michael Chavis who was just called up by the Red Sox was popped for PED’s in the minors last year and had to serve an 80 game suspension.
I heard Dave O’Brien say on the Red Sox telecast the other night that Jackie Bradley, Jr. is scuffling. JBJ isn’t scuffling, that is what he is. Somebody like Mookie Betts might scuffle, but not Jackie Bradley, Jr. Jackie had a nice bunt to help the Sox win yesterday though.
As people may or may not know, Rutland native and Rutland High grad Greg Kalil has been the public address announcer at Tropicana Field for the Tampa Bay Rays for the past several years. Greg was leaving the stadium on Saturday night and spotted Jerry “Rem Dawg” Remy in a crowd of about 100 people. Greg rolled down the window and yelled “Jerry, need a ride?” Jerry accepted and Greg gave him a lift back to the hotel. apparently “Rem Dawg” couldn’t flag down a cab. Jerry did mention that story on the NESN telecast on Sunday.
