BURLINGTON – The Catamounts battled the wet and cold conditions but could not hold off regional rival Dartmouth as the Big Green stole a 2-1 non-conference victory at Virtue Field on Tuesday night. UVM drops to 7-4 while Dartmouth stays unbeaten for the fourth straight match and improves to 3-4-3.

COACH’S QUOTE
“We had our opportunities to score but Dartmouth capitalized on its scoring chances to win the match,” head coach Rob Dow said. “The one thing I love about this team is our ability to rebound. We will lick our wounds, get back on track, and take it out on Hartford.”

HOW IT HAPPENED
UVM goalie Clay Thomas (8 saves) came up with a big stop in the 18th minute. Kota Sakuari fired a line drive from 12 yards out but Thomas managed to get a glove on the shot. On the rebound, Yima Asom tried to sneak a shot over Thomas but missed wide.
Jonathan Bryant broke the scoreless tie in the 64th minute for his second goal of the year. Off a corner kick, Geo Alves sent a ball to the far edge of the box where Bryant beat a Big Green defender and snuck a header inside of the near post.
Dartmouth found the equalizer in the 76th minute. Dawson McCartney took a free kick from 30 yards out and bent a line drive under the crossbar.
Near the end of regulation, Jon Arnar Barðdal was close to giving the Cats a late lead. The junior pushed the ball towards the box and ripped a shot through four defenders but could not prevent the ball from sailing inches over the crossbar.
As the clocked ticked under the four-minute mark in overtime, McCartney sent a cross in front of the net but the feed bounced off a UVM defender and into the back of the net for an own goal.
