Men’s Hoop: Vermont 13 Seed, Travels to Milwaukee and Matchup With Purdue

BURLINGTON – A day after clinching their sixth America East Championship and earning the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, the Catamounts learned their tournament region, seed, and opponent from the NCAA Selection Committee on Sunday night.

UVM has punched its ticket as the 13th-seeded team in the Midwest Region and will head to Milwaukee to play fourth-seeded Purdue on Thursday (March 16) at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Vermont rides into the Big Dance with a 29-5 overall record and possesses the nation’s longest active winning streak (21). The 2016-17 Cats won their six America East Championship crown after already earning the America East Regular Season title. The 2016-17 Cats also broke the program and conference record for most victories and were the only America East team to record a 16-0 undefeated conference season in the league’s history.

The green and gold were the first team to sweep the America East Major Awards – John Becker(Coach of the Year), Trae Bell-Haynes (Player of the Year), Anthony Lamb (Rookie of the Year),Darren Payen (Sixth Man of the Year), and Dre Wills (Defensive Player of the Year). Ernie Duncanand Payton Henson were also named to the All-Conference Third Team.
