BURLINGTONĀ – For the eighth consecutive season, the Vermont men’s basketball team will play in a postseason tournament.

UVM will host the Western Carolina Catamounts in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational on Wednesday, March 16 at Patrick Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The sixteen-team field was announced late Sunday evening.

This will be the second straight appearance for UVM in the CBI after advancing to the tournament semifinals last March with defeats of Hofstra and Radford. The Catamounts also played in the CBI following the 2013 and 2009 seasons.

Wednesday’s battle of the Catamounts will be the second men’s basketball postseason home game in program history.

Vermont is 21-13 this season and finished third in the America East Conference before advancing to the league championship game for the third time in five years. The Cats have won at least 20 games in eight straight seasons.

Western Carolina fell 73-69 in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament to eventual champion Chattanooga last weekend. The Catamounts come into the game with a 16-17 overall record but have won five of their last six games dating back to mid-February.
