NORTHFIELD –– Junior Jordan Hall (Anchorage, Alaska) scored the game-winning goal with 1:49 left in regulation to lift the Norwich University men’s ice hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Suffolk University in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Tournament Quarterfinals.

Hall corralled a rebound at the top of the crease and slipped the puck just past the outstretched pad of Suffolk goalie Michael Levine for the game’s only goal. Matt Burchill (Marshfield, Mass.) took the initial shot from the point after taking a pass from Gabriel Chicoine (St. Dominique, Quebec).

Levine made the initial save on Burchill, but the rebound bounced off his shoulder and right to Hall, who was in prime position at the top of the crease for his ninth goal of the season.

Hall spoiled what otherwise was a perfect game plan by the upset-minded Rams (8-17-0, 5-13-0 NEHC) behind a superb effort from Levine with 31 saves.

Norwich (19-4-3, 13-4-1 NEHC) extended its unbeaten streak to 15 straight games by the slimmest of margins as the Cadets survived a scare from the seventh-seeded Rams. Suffolk beat Norwich 1-0 earlier this season at Kreitzberg Arena.

Norwich will now host No. 3-seed Babson at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Kreitzberg Arena in the NEHC Semifinals. No. 1 seed UMass Boston will face No. 4 New England College in the other semifinal. Babson beat Skidmore 2-1, while UMass Boston beat Southern Maine 2-0. Hobart defeated New England College 4-1 in the last quarterfinal.

Junior Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France) tied the Norwich single-season record for shutouts in a season with his sixth of the year after stopping all 13 shots he faced. Aubrun tied Ryan Klingensmith ’10 who had six in the 2010 season.

Aubrun improved to 16-3-3 on the season with the victory.

Norwich advances to the NEHC Semifinals for the 10th straight year with the victory.
