Men’s Hockey: Cadets Win Fourth National Championship, Top Trinity 4-1

UTICA, NY — The Norwich Cadets earned their fourth NCAA Division Three National Championship on Saturday night, topping Trinity in the title game 4-1 inside the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

After a scoreless first period Norwich took the lead on an Anthony Flaherty goal early in the second. Trinity tied the game on a powerplay goal, but Norwich took it back on a brilliant play by Todd Jackson. The freshman winger fed an indirect pass off the right wing boards, took it back himself, and went top shelf to give the Cadets a 2-1 lead. A hustle goal from Paul Russell six minutes into the third gave Norwich insurance, and Will Pelletier locked down the win with an empty netter.

Senior goaltender Ty Reichenbach backstopped the victory, stopping 35 of 36 Trinity shots.

The win pushed Norwich’s record to 27-1-3 …. they finished the season on a 25 game unbeaten streak.
