HS Baseball: Danville wins State Title With 10-0 Whitewashing of South Royalton

BURLINGTON — Matt Hauserman tossed a four hit shutout and Tito Chamul and Matt Colburn delivered key bases clearing doubles as the Danville Indians rolled to the 2018 Vermont Division Four baseball championship with a 10-0 victory over the South Royalton Royals on Friday night at Centennial Field.

Danville opened the scoring in the third inning, getting back to back RBI singles from Steele Lahaye and Cole Beliveau to take a 2-0 lead.

Then with the bases loaded in the fourth Chamul ripped a shot up the left centerfield gap to drive in three and make the margin 5-0.

Then after the lead had built to 7-0 in the fifth, pinch hitter Colburn capped the scoring with a bases loaded shot over the head of the Royals’ center fielder to make it a 10-0 game.

That was more than enough for Hauserman who scattered four singles, walked just one man and struck out three in earning the Indians their first state championship since 2012. They had lost to the Royals in the 2016 and 2017 finals. Fourth seeded Danville finishes 12-5.

Top seeded South Royalton, which got two of its four hits from catcher Zeb Perrault, ended their year at 15-3.
