Girl’s Hoops: Division One Rematch Set as Hilltoppers and Redhawks Secure Semi-Final Wins

BURLINGTON — It will be the defending state champion St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers and undefeated CVU Redhawks meeting in a state title rematch on Sunday afternoon. That was assured after the two teams eased their way to semi-final wins on Wednesday night inside the Patrick Gymnasium.

In the first game the Hilltoppers jumped out to a 27-9 first half lead and cruised past BFA-St.Albans 52-37. Two time Gatorade Player of the Year Sadie Stetson paced the ‘Toppers with 20 points, while Lara Rohkohl and Josie Choiniere each added 11.

The nightcap followed a similar path as CVU jumped into a 28-11 first lead and roared past Rice Memorial 53-26. Harper Mead with 12 points and Kaylee Beyor with 10 led a balanced Redhawk attack that saw nine different players make it onto the score sheet.

CVU, now 23-0 and St. Johnsbury, now 21-2, met twice during he regular season with the Redhawks winning both time. they will match up inside Patrick at 4:30 on Sunday afternoon in a rematch of last year’s final when the Hilltoppers won to snap CVU’s streak of five consecutive state titles.
