Girl’s Hoop: Stetson Keys Second Half Surge, Hilltoppers Beat Essex 38-32

ESSEX JUNCTION —  Sadie Stetson had a hand in the first eight points of the third quarter and the St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers rallied from a one point halftime deficit to beat the Essex Hornets 38-32 on Tuesday night on Jean Robinson Court.

Essex led 16-15 after a first half plagued by poor shooting and turnovers on both sides. But Stetson came out to score the first three baskets of the third and then set up Emilie Begin for a hoop as the visitors surged into a lead they would never relinquish.

Stetson led all scorers with 14 points while Josie Choiniere added ten, including a perfect four for four from the foul line down the stretch.

Olivia Duncan scored nine points and Kylie Acker added seven for Essex.

With the win St. Johnsbury maintains their position at the top of the VPA Division One rankings. They are now 14-1 on the season. The loss drops Essex to 8-7.
