Girls Hockey: Burlington/Colchester Rallys Past Harwood in VPA Division One Semi-Final

BURLINGTON — Junior Brynn Coughlin scored a pair of third period goals as the Burlington/Colchester SeaLakers completed a rally from a 2-0 first period deficit and beat the Harwood Highlanders 4-2 in a Vermont Principals Association Division One Semi-Final matchup on Friday afternoon inside Gordon Pauquette Arena at Leddy Park.

Harwood jumped on top with a pair of goals in the first 4:16. Clara Griffin scored at the 1:20 mark, and Reese Clayton doubled their lead with a powerplay goal just under three minutes later.

But Burlington/Colchester dominated the game territorially, out shooting the Highlanders in the period 16-7, constantly pressuring Harwood goaltender Kaylee Thayer, and finally broke through at 10:54 when Madison Chagnon set up Megan Lehouiller to make it 2-1.

The SeaLakers continued to press in the second, and Thayer continued to hold the fort. But finally at 14:16 it was Chagnon, beating two defenders on a great individual effort and firing the tying goal past Thayer to even things at 2-2.

B/C then grabbed the lead at 1:19 of the third as Coughlin finished off a two on one feed from Ruby Wool. The same duo then combined again for the insurance marker at 11:41 as the SeaLakers sealed the deal.

Burlington/Colchester goaltender Courtney Rocheleau finished the day with twelve saves while Thayer was brilliant in defeat, stopping 41 shots in the Highlanders net.

Top seeded B/C advances to the championship game on Monday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse at 20-1-1. Harwood ends the season 14-6-2.
