Boy’s Hoops: Chaikin Leads Green Knights Past Seahorses

SOUTH BURLINGTON — Leo Chaikin scored 20 of his game high 28 points in the first half and his Rice Green Knights roared past the Burlington Seahorses 72-48 on Thursday night on Bernie Cieplicki Court.

Chaikin came out of the gate on fire scoring 10 points in the first quarter as Rice took a 15-6 lead after one. The junior added 10 more in the second and sophomore Michel Ndayishimiye chipped six as Rice built the lead to 18 at 33-15 at the break.

Burlington made a brief run in the third, getting back as close as 14, but Rice finished the stanza on a run of their own, building the lead to 20 at 54-34 after three. The Knights then cruised home to the win.

Chaikin led all scorers with his 28 points. John Rousseau added 15, all of them in the second half, and Ndayishimiye contributed 12 in the win.

Khalon Taylor led the Seahorses with 14, while Jackson Sevakian and Jensen Daly each added 10.

With the win Rice holds on to the top seed in Division One at 15-1. Burlington is now 8-9.
