HINESBURG — The Ttp seeded CVU Redhawks blew open a relatively close game with a 24-9 third quarter explosion and went on to beat the St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers 68-45 in VPA Division One Quarterfinal action on Friday night inside the CVU Gym.
The Academy hung with the Redhawks for a half, trailing by three at the quarter 20-17 and by six at the half 32-26. But keyed be the hot shooting of senior guard Josh Bliss who scored thirteen of his game high 23 points in the 3rd quarter, CVU roared away in the second 16 minutes to secure their 21st win of the season.
The home team shot it well all night, finishing with 12 three point field goals. After Bliss, who sank five trifectas on the night, the ‘Hawks placed three other players in double figures, Colin Monsey with 14 points and Matt Spear and Walker Storey each with 10.
Jacob Cody and Jack Moran each scored ten for the Hilltoppers who saw their season end at 13-9.
The Redhawks are now 21-1 and advance to meet fourth seeded Missisquoi, a four point winner tonight over Rice, in the semi-finals on Tuesday night at Patrick Gym.
