Boy’s Hockey: Hornets win 5th Straight, Top SB 3-1

South Burlington — Nick McGovern scored two goals and Jonah Janaro netted the game winner, and the Essex Hornets won their fifth straight, topping the South Burlington Rebels 3-1 on Wednesday night inside Cairns Arena.

After SB took the lead on a point shot by defenseman Dylan Rochford 2:37 into the first period, Essex tied it on McGovern’s shot from the slot about three mites later. Essex then took the lead at 13:10 of the second when Janaro finished off a goal mouth feed from San Couture.

The Hornets then sealed the win on McGovern’s extra attacker tally with eleven seconds remaining.

Essex goaltender Sam Foster backstopped the win, making 19 saves. Rebel netminder Zach Munson was solid in defeat, recording 28 stops.

With their fifth straight win Essex improves to 8-5. The loss, their first in seven games, dropped SB to 8-4-1.
