Boy’s Hoops: Cougars Roar Past St. Johnsbury 69-56

JERICHO — Becket Hill scored 26 points and the Mt. Mansfield Cougars outscored the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers 41-23 over the middle two quarters, rolling to a 69-56 win over the Academy on Tuesday night in the MMU Gym.

After battling to a 13-13 standoff over the first eight minutes Mt. Mansfield outscored St. J. 20-12 in the second quarter to open an eight point lead at the half, then stretched the lead to as much as 20 points in the second half.

Hill banged in nine two point field goals and added a pair of treys and a pair of free throws on he night. He scored 17 of his 26 in the first half. He was the only Cougar to reach double figures, but Asa Carlson and Tayler Bowen each chipped in nine as a total of eight MMU players got on the scoring sheet.

Logan Wendell led the Academy with 18 points, 11 of which came in the first quarter. Alex Carlisle, who sat the entire second quarter after being whistled for three first quarter fouls, finished with 13, including the 1,000th point of his St. Johnsbury career.

With the win Mt. Mansfield improves to 11-2 on the season. St. Johnsbury slips to 9-4.
