NEW LONDON, CT. — Middlebury scored 4:12 into Friday’s first period and added an empty-net tally late in the final stanza, earning a 2-0 road victory over Connecticut College (4-12-1, 0-10-1) in Dayton Arena. Middlebury (8-8-1, 5-5-1) remains on the road for a 4:00 p.m. Saturday league contest at Tufts.

The Panthers got on the board first with 4:12 elapsed in the opening period when Spencer Cage scored his second goal of the year on an assist from Mitchell Allen. Cage collected Allen’s initial shot and backhanded the puck past Conn. College netminder Connor Rodericks.

After a scoreless second period in which the Panthers outshot the hosts 12-8, the Camels nearly tied the game with just over seven minutes remaining in the third. Kyle Moss let a shot fly from the blue line through traffic, but the goal was waived off because the puck had not completely crossed the line.

The Panthers killed off another penalty and put the game away when Michael Fahie won a one-on-one race to the puck, scoring on an empty net at the 19:26 mark for his team-high ninth goal of the winter and the final 2-0 score.

Panther goalie Brian Ketchabaw recorded 39 saves, including 19 in the first period, for his second shutout of the season, while Rodericks stopped 32 Panther shots. The Camels were 0-3 with the extra skater, while Middlebury didn’t have a power-play chance.
