Correction, High School Football Week #1

By Jack Healey
Earlier this week I wrote that Will Fleming, the great Pawtucket Red Sox announcer who has been sitting in occasionally on Boston Red Sox radio broadcasts would be subbing for NESN’s Dave O’Brien during the series in Colorado. I was mistaken! The announcer on TV was Tom Helmer. I was misinformed.
Meantime Dave O’Brien keeps getting criticized and I don’t get it. Same as Joe Buck. I guess both O’Brien and Buck broadcast multiple sports because they stink.
Fans do realize that the NFL pre season doesn’t count right?
In college football Texas A and M opened up with a 41-7 crushing of Texas State. I didn’t even know there was a Texas State.
It’s high school football week #1 getting underway tonight and already Rice has to forfeit its game at Hartford even though the two teams will have a controlled scrimmage. Rice suffered several injuries in a scrimmage last week and just didn’t have the numbers to compete in game 1. It’s always disturbing when a team has to forfeit a game and the safety of the players is the most important thing, but it is especially disturbing to see a forfeit in a Division 1 game. In theory Division 1 should never have a numbers problem and if they do why are they in Division 1? Apparently Rice will be OK for next week and the season going forward, but why aren’t they in Division 2?
Here are my picks for week #1:
