World Cup, John Deere and Chris Gasper

By Jack Healey
France wins the World Cup its 2nd overall and first since 1998. The Yankees win the World Series every time France wins the World Cup!
John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont on February 7th, 1804. There is a historic sign adjacent to the Main St. Park in Rutland so why isn’t the John Deere Classic Golf Classic played in Rutland instead of in Illinois? Yes he did most of his inventing in Moline, Illinois and he died there in 1886, but still he was born in Rutland plus the Rutland Country Club is the home of the two time Vermont Mens Am champ Drake Hull and 2018 runner-up Max Major and has also won the McCullough Cup team championship five years in a row.
Do you read the Boston Globe? The Globe Sunday sports section was the best when I was a kid and it still is! Chris Gasper is a sportswriter with the Boston Globe. Chris is a brilliant writer! He is this generation’s Peter Gammons and Bob Ryan.
Miami of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio [now just Miami-Ohio] is called the “cradle of coaches”. Former Notre Dame football coach Ara Parseghian played and coached at Miami-Ohio, former Michigan football coach Bo Schembeckler played and coached at Miami-Ohio and former Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes coached at Miami-Ohio. The Boston Globe could be called the “cradle of sportswriters”! I’ve already mentioned Peter Gammons and Bob Ryan to name a few. How about Kevin Paul Dupont, Will McDonough, Bud Collins and Ray Fitzgerald to name a few others and yes Dan Shaughnessey? They are all in so many Halls of Fame I’ve lost count. Chris Gasper is destined for a Hall of Fame or two in his future as well!
I’m going with Jesus Aguilar of Milwaukee in the home-run derby tonight and I’m going with the American League tomorrow night.
