I don’t understand why Boston Globe hockey guy Kevin Paul Dupont was so obsessed with the members of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team going to President Trump’s rally in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago during the celebration of the “Miracle On Ice” 40 years ago. Most of his column concerned Mike Eruzione wearing a “Make America Great Again” cap on the podium and all the negative E-Mails the US team captain has received at Boston University where he is employed. Eruzione makes it clear that some players liked Trump and others didn’t and not every player went to the rally as a few stayed in the hotel. That’s ok as I would say that the hockey team is a microcosm of the way the country is anyway. Eruzione has said he regrets wearing the cap,but not going to the rally. I say why regret anything? It’s a free country and he can do whatever he wants. My point is that I don’t care who the President is and I don’t care what the players did. They were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the greatest sports moment of the 20th century. What’s the problem? And why did Dupont have to take up most of his column to make it political? Come on man!!!
I guess it’s the media’s fault about the coronavirus scare. It’s the media’s fault for causing the hysteria. The Ivy League, NESCAC and other colleges across the country didn’t have to react the way they did because of what the media said by canceling seasons and classes. This is academia we’re talking about. Can’t they decide for themselves regardless of what the media says?
