Jack Healey’s Blog November 15th, 2017

I wiffed on my predictions for managers of the year. I went with Dave Roberts and AJ Hinch and the winners are Minnesota’s Paul Molitor in the American League and Torey Lovullo of Arizona in the National League.

Cy Young winners to be announced tonight and I’m going with Cleveland’s Corey Kluber and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers.

I think the three state championship football games being played at Rutland’s Alumni Field were not only the biggest sports story of the day in Vermont, but because it was Veteran’s Day it was also one of the biggest news stories in the state because of the tasteful way the holiday was treated before each one of the games. I have mentioned that in this column earlier in the week and I’m amazed it has received virtually no publicity elsewhere.

Looking back at Fair Haven’s 46-20 victory over Bellows Falls in the Division 2 state title game;

It was Slater coach Brian Grady’s third state championship as a coach. ItĀ  was his first at Fair Haven, but he also led MSJ to Division 1 state championships in both 1998 and 1999. He also won a Division 1 state title as a player as he was a member of MSJ’s 1974 undefeatedĀ  Division 1 state championship team.
