Was it the biggest upset in college basketball history? Was it the biggest upset loss in Virginia history?
I say yes to both.
2nd question first….yes, it was a bigger upset loss in Virginia basketball history than Chaminade’s victory over Ralph Sampson and Virginia in 1982.
I say yes to the first question too.
A bigger upset than North Carolina State over Houston? Yes!
A bigger upset than Villanova over Georgetown in 1983? Yes!
A bigger upset than either Butler over Duke or Butler over UCONN would’ve been in 2010 and 2011? Yes!
A bigger upset than UVM over Syracuse? Yes!
Was it the biggest upset in sports history?
A bigger upset than the Jets over Baltimore? Yes!
A bigger upset than the Giants over the Patriots? Yes!
A bigger upset than the Patriots over the Rams? Yes!
A bigger upset than Appalachian State over Michigan in “The Big House”? Yes!
A bigger upset than the US Olympic hockey team over Russia in 1980? NO! I can’t go that far, but that UMBC victory is #2.
