The Baseball Hall of Fame results will be announced at 6PM today on the Major league Baseball Network.

Based on what I’ve read and heard with the tracking of the votes etc. I predict that the following players will get into the Hall:

Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Edgar Martinez, Trevor Hoffman and Vladamir Guerrero. I got to admit that two of the players Thome and Hoffman didn’t pass the eye test for me at one time. Are they Hall of Famers? Yes and they have the stats to prove it. Thome has over 600 homers and Hoffman has over 600 saves. Edgar Martinez might be close, but so what if he was only a DH? I always thought it was a ridiculous argument. The Hall of Fame except for a few exceptions and pitchers of course have always been about offensive numbers. Yes I get it about middle infielders like Phil Rizzuto and Pee Wee Reese back in the day, but I think you know what I mean.

Some terrible defensive players with great offensive numbers have got into the Hall of Fame, so what is the big deal about designated hitters?

By the way I used to think that 500 home runs and 3000 hits were automatic Hall of Fame numbers. I still feel that way about 3000 hits, but not 500 homers. It’s not because of the steroid era either.  I just think you have to look at the players with 500 homers on an individual basis. Adam Dunn for example hit 462 career homers so he was only 38 homers away from 500. If he reached 500 homers was he an automatic Hall of Famer? Of course not!

These are my predictions not necessarily my ballot if I had one. I would’ve voted for all these players however.
