College Football Thoughts

By Jack Healey
It will be Clemson against Alabama in the National Championship game on January 7th and with all the talk of how many teams should be in the playoffs, the best two teams in the country will be playing for the title so what’s the problem? The two semi-final games came out the way I thought they would and I did think that Clemson would blow out Notre Dame.
Let me say though that Notre Dame deserved to be in the “Final 4”. Of course because they were undefeated! Did I think Notre Dame was better than Georgia or Ohio State or maybe a few other teams? No I didn’t, but Georgia lost twice and Ohio State lost once and I repeat Notre Dame was undefeated. If you don’t decide by record then it becomes subjective and records would be meaningless.
The national championship was subjective back in the days of the old AP and UPI polls.
If Alabama lost to Georgia in the SEC championship game, Alabama still would’ve been in the “Final 4”. I get that because then you have to decide among a few one loss teams.
Don’t tell me about UCF. Maybe they deserve to be there and maybe not, but they aren’t from a power conference.
Through December 29th my record in college football bowl games is 15-13.
Here goes:
Monday December 31st
Virginia Tech over Cincinnati in the Military Bowl
Pittsburgh over Stanford in the Sun Bowl
Oregon over Michigan State in the Red Box Bowl
Missouri over Oklahoma State in the Liberty Bowl
Northwestern over Utah in the Holiday Bowl
Texas A & M over North Carolina in the Gator Bowl
Tuesday January 1st
Mississippi State over Iowa in the Outback Bowl
UCF over LSU in the Fiesta Bowl
Penn State over Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl
Ohio State over Washington in the Rose Bowl
Georgia over Texas in the Sugar Bowl
I’ll save the National Championship game for later.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
