Fairfax shuts-out Indians

Justin Bolam found the back of the net just six minutes into the contest and that proved to be the only scoring of the game as BFA-Fairfax held off host Danville to earn a 1-0 victory.

Danville got off to a fast start as Michael Newman fired a shot that banged off the post just minutes into play, and it looked like the Indians were going to take it to BFA-Fairfax early. “I thought we were into it but then we were just blah all day,” Danville coach Charles Remick said. “Hopefully it was just one of those days.”

The Bullets stepped things up and just six minutes in they were rewarded with a 1-0 lead when Bolam knocked home a goal, which became the game-winner.

“Overall it was a pretty well-matched game,” Fairfax coach Katie Mack said. “We had a rough start to the season so it has been nice to get some wins. It is all starting to come together.”

Both squads had chances throughout the game but neither team could finish, an issue coach Mack said her team needs to continue to work on. “We need to work on capitalizing on our offensive opportunities but I am glad we pulled through and gutted out a win.”

Coach Remick, despite disappointed with his team’s play, gave credit where it was due to Fairfax. “I give them credit, they just beat us to the ball all day.”

The win lifts BFA to 3-5 while Danville falls to even at 4-4. Fairfax returns to action on Monday at Richford.
