CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Vermont senior Courtnay Pilypaitis (Ottawa, Ontario) has been named the America East Player of the Week for the week ending February 7.
This is the fourth weekly honor of the season for Pilypaitis. She has earned player of the week honor 11 times in her career, tying former standout Karalyn Church '00 for the most all-time among Catamounts, and tying for the third most weekly honors all-time in America East records.
Pilypaitis led the Catamounts, who lead the nation in road wins (12), to a pair of victories away from Patrick Gymnasium last week. She averaged 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and shot 42.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 88.9 percent from the foul line.
She chipped in 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and six steals in a 66-44 victory at Maine. Pilypaitis also became UVM's all-time leader in minutes played with 36 against the Black Bears. It was the third Vermont all-time mark she has broken this season, all of which had been held by former standout Lori Taylor '98. Taylor, a native of Markham, Ontario, was inducted into the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame in October.
Pilypaitis' best performance of the week came in a 72-63 victory at Albany. She posted her sixth double-double of the season and 20th of her career with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while also adding six assists. Pilypaitis also went 5-for-9 from three-point range and moved to within five three's of becoming the all-time leader in America East in three-point field goals. She also moved into third among UVM's all-time leading scorers (1,840 pts) and fourth among Vermont's all-time rebounders (809).
Pilypaitis leads the league in steals (2.96 spg) and ranks among the top five in six different statistical categories, including third in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg) and assists (5.04 apg).
Vermont stands at 19-5 overall and 9-2 in America East action. The Catamounts host Boston University on Wednesday (Feb. 10) at 7 p.m. at Patrick Gymnasium.
