Yesterday in this space we spoke of two legends ... the retiring Pat Summit and the late Dick Clark. Today is about another legend ... a legend built of brick and mortar and steel.
They will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park today in Boston. I know the team is off to a disappointing start ... there is a lot of angst right now about the ballclub ... but today is not about that. Its about 100 years of memories ... 100 years of baseball ... much of it good ... some of it bad ... it is about frustrations and disappointments ... and about triumph.
The Sox have suppposedly invited every living former player, coach or manager. It will be interesting to see who shows up ... who gets introduced and so on. After the ceremonies the game will be the first meeting of the season with the Yankees, but that will be secondary. Today is all about Fenway. Enjoy it for what it is.
