It's a long, tired rant probably at this point, but I wonder what is wrong with the NBA, in terms of scoring, in today's game? Last night the Celtics beat the Suns 87-79. That's right, 87-79. I mean, did they play the 4th quarter? They did but if you look at the game statistics Pheonix didn't score more than 20(17 in the 2nd, 15 in the 4th) and the Celts only scored fourteen(count em) points in the 3rd quarter. Field goal percentage wasn't unusually terrible, Pheonix at 39.3 and the C's over 45%. However, the Suns shot the ball 84 times and the Celtics just 81 times. I remember when I played college ball we wanted to get 100 shots up a game, hope to make 35 to 40, and make about 20 FT's. Even without 3's on the low end that's 90 points. Play any kind of defense and you've got a good chance to win. Perhaps, speaking of defense, the defensive guru's are loving the fact that games are being played with consistently low scores(see NO 88 Houston 79, or Toronto 90 Philly 72). Granted those are just 3 games out of 11. But, 2 other losing teams scored lower than 85 points? You can't tell me the NBA isn't looking into this. Is it skill, or lack thereof in the shooting department? Has the game become ultra-athletic but lacking in fundamentals? I don't want to say I walked both ways, uphill in 3 feet of snow with sandals on, but, I did walk one way with decent boots and don't ever remember scoring being such an issue. I do remember the thugs that were the New York Knicks when Pat Riley coached them. The muckling, grabbing, pushing and shoving league wide that caused a stir in the 90's. Well folks, it's time to stir it up again, cause today's NBA is boring. Sorry. No fastbreaks, no fun. I hate the Heat, but at least they push it-for the most part. Watching the Celtics, and several other NBA teams(sans the Clippers, and I love the fact that the Lakers completely stink right now) is like watching paint dry. It's awful. One last thing. Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, and Avery Bradley each had negative plus/minus ratio's last night. Perhaps it would be shortsighted to point out only their faults, but, no one else on the team had negative plus/minus ratio's. No one. Bye bye Rondo. Have a good time in Dallas, or where ever you end up. Bobcats?
Hockey is back. Yawn. Next topic.
I told you yesterday right here in this blog, or maybe the day before, that Brian Kelly would be heading to the NFL in so many words. Guess what. Looks like it's in the works. Sorry Notre Dame fans. When your club lost that game to Alabama, you lost a lot more than just the game.
It looks like Junior Seau's brain suffered too many traumatic brain injuries while playing in the NFL, and prior. Does the NFL have a major problem? Will this type of information cause our youth to stop playing? I have to admit, with a son, it's hard for me to imagine putting him on the field to play football without the best helmet one could buy. The NFL HAS to make sure that they are using the latest technology, and handing it down to all levels, to keep people safe.
No one is elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame? Are you kidding me? What a complete an utter joke. Mike Piazza? The list could go on and on. Curt Schilling? 11 and 2 in the playoffs and not in? The list is endless. Let's face it, there was a major league steroid problem in MLB. In fact, there probably still is, but, they belong in the HOF. The HOF voters should be embarrassed. The Hall of Fame literally just got tarnished. Is it a museum and shrine for baseball or a building about ethics? It's a joke.
glad to have Hockey back
