The Essex Lady Hornets finished a perfect 19-0 season and picked up their 6th state title overall with a 6-3 victory over BFA-St. Albans in the Division 1 high school softball state championship game in Poultney that finished up on Monday.
The game was suspended in the last of the 4th inning on Friday with the score tied up at 2-2.
Essex first baseman Jordi Begin was battng with the count 3-2, two outs and nobody on when play was resumed. She fouled off two pitches and then hit the next pitch for a long home-run to straight away center field for a 3-2 Essex lead. The Lady Hornets would add three insurance runs after two were out in the last of the 6th including an rbi single by Sam Parotti who had two base hits in the game.
The Comets would score a run in the top of the 7th to close the gap to 6-3, but could get no closer.
Chelsea Abbot had three hits including a pair of doubles and scored a run for the Comets.
Alexis Perry picked up the win, the loss going to Chelsea Abbot.
BFA wraps up its season 16-3.
