The Lyndon Institute Vikings boys basketball team is still young but after last year's 6-14 record it can be expected that the year of experience will translate to bigger things this season.
After seeing huge minutes last season as freshman, Mason Lantz, Kyle Cipollone and James Shufelt are returning with a year of varsity experience under their belts and will look to again make huge contributions.
Jason Lau and Dan McManus are the only seniors on the squad and Jake King and Patrick Hunter both return for their junior years.
“With the return of many young players we will strive to continue to improve individually and as a team so we may build for the future,” LI coach Mark Smith said. “On any given evening any number of players may be the key to being successful. We are young but do have some talented individuals who have dedicated themselves to becoming better athletes and basketball players.”
Added to this year's mix is junior Chris Charron and sophomores Nick Ruede, Ben Brooks and Harwant Sethi. Freshman Jay Cobb will also be looked upon to step right in.
“We must continue to grow, mature and expand our knowledge of the game and our skill level,” Smith added. “With any young team it will be key that we gain experience and maintain our confidence despite the arduous task at hand.
“We state each day that our measuring stick is not wins and losses but the will to win is.”
