DeGreenia hopeful in Concord

First-year head coach Denny DeGreenia takes the reins of a Concord boys basketball team that is coming off a 1-19 season a year ago.

The Wildcats return four players from last year's squad which battled with lack of numbers and experience all season. Returning for coach DeGreenia are senior point guard Mike Hemond, junior forward Josh Goulding, sophomore forward Brody Young and freshman center Kenyon MacDonald.

“Hemond is a very strong ball handler and he's a good shooter from inside the paint and out,” coach DeGreenia said. “Brody Young is really strong rebounding on both ends of the floor, he's quick and he can jump.” If the Wildcats are to improve upon last year's struggles they will need both Hemond and Young to have big years.

Coach DeGreenia will also look for newcomers to contribute right away and hopes Mark Austin will be big for the Concord squad. “He is a freshman but he will be a player for us. His shooting and rebounding abilities are solid.”

The Wildcats will continue to face the same old obstacles of youth and inexperience but coach DeGreenia feels he has a talented group of boys that are ready to get going.

Concord gets their season underway on Tuesday when they take on Mid Vermont.
