Indians look for return trip to Aud

Last year the Danville Indians fell a game short, dropping the championship to Twinfield. And, with five players returning, first year head coach Scott Rainville is optimistic about the 2011/12 campaign.

“We are looking for our returning five to really help the new additions with each of their leadership qualities,” Rainville said.

The Indians return their point guard, Scott Remick, for his senior season and it is certain the championship defeat lingers with him. The squad will also feature seniors Tony Burrington, who came on strong down the stretch last season, and senior Jon Kimball. Brady Rainville is the lone junior returning to the lineup and is a player who can hit from the outside. Kyle Johnson rounds out the group of returnees and if he can play to the level he did last season, as one of the best freshman in the state, he is sure to make a huge impact this season.

Brett Elliot, a sophomore forward will get his shot at the varsity level this season after a stellar JV season a year ago. Andy Towle and Jacob Roy, both seniors, also join the squad this season.

Coach Rainville, who moves up from the JV ranks from last year, replaces 10-year head coach Jim Nelson. “I would first like to thank the Nelson family for the last 10 years,” Rainville said. “We have a great group of kids that have a team-first attitude and with hard work in practice we look forward to a successful season.”

Danville opens the season on Tuesday when they host rival Blue Mountain in a game being broadcast right here on NSN.
